Miaplacidus

Beta (β) Carina, Miaplacidus, is a star in the keel of the Argo Navis .

Beta is located in the Carina subregion of Argo and is the alpha star of Halley's Robur Carolinum [Halley designed a new constellation which he called Robur Carolinum (Charles' Oak) , in honor of the tree that hid King Charles II, but that constellation disappeared 50 years later].

Miaplacidus, Maia-placidus, the meaning and origin of which I cannot understand, unless it is partly, as Higgins asserts in his short work on star names, derived from the Arabic Miyah, of Ma Plural, Water. However, the original text is better transcribed as Mi’ah.

Astrological Influences of the Carina Constellation

There is no mythological or astrological explanation associated with the Carina constellation, as this constellation has always been seen as the Argo Navis, the great ship. In part, it was not until 1752 that the French astronomer Nicolas Louis de Lacaille divided the Argo Navis into Carina (keel of the ship), Puppis (stern), and Vela (sail), as well as a secondary division of the Argo now known as Pyxis Nautica. The constellation Argo Navis represents the ship that Jason brought back the Golden Fleece from Colchis, said to be the first ship built.

Astrological influences throughout the Argo Navis, the constellation of Ship: According to Ptolemy, bright stars like Saturn and Jupiter. Argo is said to bring prosperity in trade and navigation, and to have great psychic and spiritual powers, but it has been observed to be accompanied by cases of drowning, a notable example being Shelley's Astrolabe, in which Argo Occupying the 8thhouse and containing theSun, Venus and Uranus. In particular one should fear the drowning of Saturn in or from the Argo injuring theMoon. It is probably because of this sign that Virgo, especially the first decan, is often found to be associated with drowning. [Robson, page 30. ]
